Storing Green Tea for Optimal Freshness

Keep your green tea in an airtight container. This prevents exposure to air, light, and moisture, the main culprits behind stale tea.

Choose an opaque container. Light degrades the delicate flavors and aromas of green tea. Dark-colored glass or ceramic are ideal.

Store in a cool, dark, and dry place. Avoid areas with fluctuating temperatures or high humidity, such as near the stove or in direct sunlight. A pantry or a dedicated tea cupboard is perfect.

Consider using a vacuum-sealed container. This provides the best protection against oxidation, further preserving the tea’s quality.

Freeze your tea for long-term storage. Portion your tea into freezer bags before freezing to avoid repeated freezing and thawing cycles.

Use your tea within six months for optimal freshness, even if frozen. While freezing extends its lifespan, freshly purchased tea always tastes best.
