Preparing the Injection Site

Cleanse the injection site with an antiseptic swab, using a circular motion from the center outward, at least 2 inches in diameter. Allow the area to air dry completely. This prevents contamination.

Choosing the Injection Site

The ideal location is the gluteal muscle (buttocks). Avoid areas with bruises, scars, or lesions. Rotate injection sites with each dose to minimize irritation.

Assessing the Site

Once cleaned, visually inspect the area for any redness, swelling, or unusual markings that might indicate a unsuitable injection site. If you find anything concerning, choose a different location and repeat the cleaning process.

Area Pros Cons
Gluteal muscle Large muscle mass, less chance of nerve damage. Requires assistance for self-injection.
Vastus lateralis (thigh) Accessible for self-injection. Smaller muscle mass, higher risk of nerve damage if improperly administered.

Final Checks

Before injecting, gently palpate the area to ensure there are no lumps or hard spots. A firm, consistent feel indicates a suitable injection site. Remember to dispose of used needles and swabs properly.
