Always inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies, before starting Ciprofloxacin treatment. This helps prevent potentially harmful interactions.
Antacids and Minerals
Avoid taking Ciprofloxacin with antacids containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. These minerals can reduce Ciprofloxacin absorption, lessening its effectiveness against your skin infection. Separate your Ciprofloxacin dose from antacid intake by at least two hours.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Ciprofloxacin may increase the effect of Warfarin, a blood thinner. This combination increases the risk of bleeding. Your doctor will likely monitor your blood clotting time closely if you are taking both medications.
Theophylline
Taking Ciprofloxacin with Theophylline, a medication for respiratory conditions, can elevate Theophylline levels in your blood, potentially leading to side effects like increased heart rate or seizures. Careful monitoring is necessary.
Sucralfate
Similar to antacids, Sucralfate, used to treat ulcers, can interfere with Ciprofloxacin absorption. Maintain a two-hour gap between taking these medications.
NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
Concurrent use of Ciprofloxacin and NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen may increase the risk of seizures, especially in patients with a history of seizures or kidney problems. Use caution and inform your doctor.
Caffeine
While not a significant interaction, Ciprofloxacin can increase the effects of caffeine. You might experience increased jitters or anxiety. Consider reducing your caffeine intake during Ciprofloxacin treatment.
